Double Chin Treatment

Excess fat under your chin or hanging skin on the neck can affect your appearance and make you appear older. Exercise does not effectively target this area of the body. However, various surgical and nonsurgical treatments are available to help you get rid of a double chin.

Neck Liposuction: Liposuction is procedure which involves dislodging or disintegrating fat cells which are then suctioned out. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and sedation to ensure comfort. One or two small incisions are made in the area and a fine tube is inserted through the incisions. Fat is then broken down using laser, ultrasound energy or some other technique and removed by suctioning. Neck liposuction is preferred for those between the ages of 20 to 50 as skin elasticity is reasonably good and the neck does not appear saggy after the operation.

Coolsculpting is a procedure to reshape areas of fat accumulation that are resistant to diet and exercise such as the abdomen, back, sides and neck. The procedure involves a controlled cooling and crystallization of fat cells under the skin of the neck which later die and are eliminated naturally by the body. The remaining fat cells reorganize to form a more compact layer. The entire procedure usually takes an hour. The results become apparent in about 6-8 weeks and are long lasting.

Kybella is a relatively new FDA-approved substance that can help you get rid of a double chin. It contains deoxycholic acid which breaks down and absorbs fat. Kybella is injected in the fatty areas under the chin and in your neck destroying fat cells. The area to be injected is marked and anesthetized. Fine needles are used to administer multiple injections into the areas that need treatment. A session takes about half an hour. Results are usually seen after 2-3 sessions.

Neck lift with Botox: Botox contains a purified toxin derived from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. It produces muscle relaxation, slowing the progression of wrinkles and fine lines. Botox injections may also be used to treat sagging skin on the neck (turkey neck) and lift your lower face giving you a youthful appearance with a smoother neckline. The areas to be treated are carefully marked and anesthetized before the Botox injections are administered. The procedure usually lasts no more than an hour.

Ultratherapy: This technique uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production which helps improve the tone and texture of skin. It is an ideal treatment for sagging neck skin. For the procedure, the area to be treated is covered by a gel and an ultrasound wand is applied. Imaging studies help control the level of penetration so that the deep layers of skin containing collagen are targeted. Treatment time varies from 30 mints to 1-1/2 hour depending on how much correction you require.
