Cellulite is the dimpling of skin caused by the uneven accumulation of fat. It usually develops on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen and is seen in 90% of women. When excessive, it can be unsightly and affect one’s confidence.
Innovative treatments for cellulite reduction include mesotherapy and ultrasound cavitation.
Mesotherapy involves the injection of specific medication into the middle layer of skin (mesoderm) which contains fat and connective tissue. Originally developed for the treatment of vascular diseases, infections and injuries; mesotherapy is also used to destroy fat cells and eliminate cellulite. The injection consists of special medications, vitamins and plant extracts. The injections are painlessly delivered with a special device called a meso-gun which uses a very fine needle. Five to ten sessions are recommended depending on the extent of cellulite being treated.
Ultrasound cavitation involves the application of an ultrasound device over the areas affected by cellulite. High frequency waves form microscopic bubbles that ultimately destroy or liquefy fat cells which are later eliminated. The overlying skin tightens and improves in tone and appearance. You may experience some redness and swelling at the areas being treated. Six to ten sessions, each spaced 3 days apart are usually necessary for complete treatment.
To maintain the results of these procedure, adequate exercise and a healthy diet are recommended.
